Wedding
photographers know all the 'tried-and-tested' techniques
Anyone
starting a career, whether it's a photographer, a professional athlete, a
businessperson or a teacher, needs to take risks and make mistakes in order to
learn how not to repeat them. With regards to wedding photography,
photographers must experiment with many different styles and settings to learn
how to use the right techniques and deliver flawless photos.
Correct
lighting is one of the most important factors to get right in all forms of
photography. Inside a church, for example, photographers need to carefully
select the right settings on their cameras to ensure that their photos are
consistent with regards to colour and sharpness. That is why most people with
little experience of photography or who use cheap compact cameras struggle to
capture good photos in dark environments or at night, unless they use a flash.
Have your
photos processed to perfection
The vast
majority of professional photographers use specialist software like Adobe
Photoshop, which enables them to customise their photos and alter aspects such
as colour, sharpness, contrast, temperature or clone out any obvious intrusions
such as an aeroplane in the background sky or a piece of litter on the grass.
Before the days of digital technology, photographers could not make any further
edits to a picture once it had been processed, which is why the standards and
expectations for wedding shoots are so much higher than they were in the past.
Photographers
can improvise and make the most out of any situation
Everyone
wants a perfect wedding, although sometimes external factors such as the
weather, accidents or other unexpected events can make it difficult to achieve
the photos that you want. Of course, there is no such thing as a perfect
wedding and unexpected situations will always occur. Rain, for example, can
look particularly quintessential and even a little romantic when it is
photographed at a traditional English church. Indeed, in this situation, it is
the people that become the focal point of the picture, rather than the scenery
surrounding them, which in effect gives the photo more resonance and
perspective than a wedding photo shot on a sunny day or in an exotic location.
A
'spontaneous' wedding could be more romantic than you think
Likewise, a
winter wedding, although not necessarily a common choice for most couples, can
be a particularly romantic time of the year to capture photos when there is frost
or snow outside. Many wedding photographers may also be willing to offer
discounts during 'out-of-seasons' periods, when their work flow may be much
lower. The bareness of a winter setting and the lack of colour can also evoke a
more striking contrast and will draw more attention to the bride and groom in
the photos.
Photos must
accurately portray your wedding day
Your wedding
photos should accurately represent the day, rather than portray it as
everything went smoothly and to perfection. Sometimes it is the most
spontaneous and unpredictable situations that can create the most memorable
photos. After all, that is what distinguishes your wedding from any other,
because the events surrounding the event are personal to you.
